Is there a qualifying event that I need to do before entering the Roof of Africa?

There are no longer any qualifying criteria to be fulfilled in order to become a participant in the Roof of Africa; however, the event organisers reserve the right to determine which class a competitor is eligible for and they are allowed to adjust accordingly.

In this regard, the event organisers reserve the right to request that suitable evidence be provided to be able to satisfy themselves that a rider possesses the necessary experience/skill for the class selected.

How old do I have to be to compete in the Roof of Africa?

Riders who wish to compete in the Roof of Africa have to be 16 by the time the event is scheduled to take place.

Are there set rules to adhere to in terms of motorcycle capacity?

Do I need a GPS to compete at the Roof of Africa?

Yes. A GPS is compulsory at the event. Click here for more information regarding GPS devices and use.

Can I compete at the Roof of Africa without a service crew?

Unfortunately, no. You will need to have at least one person as your personal service crew for the event. They will be required to transport your fuel, hydration and nutrition products to the designated service point on each of the mountain race days. We are currently working to include service options available through a variety of dealers and manufacturers – check back soon for more information.

Where should I book accommodation for the Roof of Africa?

The Start/Finish will be announced closer to the event but will be close to Maseru, the capital Lesotho. Therefore, anywhere within the Maseru district, as far as Roma, is perfectly situated for the event. For a full list of accommodation options click here.
